Seed And Key
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 GMC Sierra and 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
This procedure requires a CD-ROM database containing Passlock(tm) seed and key algorithm loaded on a computer with class 2 capability and a Tech 2 scan tool (or equivalent).
NOTE:
This procedure allows relearning of Passlock(tm) module or PCM/VCM learned data code after replacement of Passlock(tm) module, Passlock(tm) sensor or PCM/VCM. DTC B3031 will set when entering programming mode.
- Clear all PCM/VCM and Passlock(tm) DTCs. Turn ignition off. Replace component(s) as necessary. With transmission in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T), turn ignition switch momentarily to START position (DO NOT start engine). Leave ignition in RUN position (engine off).
- Using scan tool or computer connected to DLC, select Passlock(tm) REQUEST DEVICE CONTROL. If SECURITY indicator light flashes, indicating request device control is denied, select UNLOCK MODULE SECURITY to initiate seed and key learn sequence. After issuing a request seed, access CD-ROM database for algorithm to unlock Passlock(tm) module or PCM/VCM, whichever was not replaced.
- Select REQUEST DEVICE CONTROL and ensure DEVICE CONTROL ENABLED is displayed. SECURITY indicator light should remain illuminated for 10 minutes, then turn off. Procedure will be completed during next start attempt. Clear all DTCs. If PCM/VCM was replaced, reprogram PCM/VCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
