Body Control Module (BCM): Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 GMC Sierra and 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the knee bolster. See KNEE BOLSTER .
- Disconnect the brown connector.
- Disconnect all other connectors.
- Remove the BCM from the sliding bracket. See Fig 1 .
NOTE:
The ignition switch should be in the off position when connecting or disconnecting the connectors to the BCM. Always disconnect the brown BCM connector first. Connect the brown connector last. The BCM can set DTCs with the ignition switch in the off position. The BCM has battery run down protection for the courtesy lamp circuit. The BCM battery run down protection can not detect shorts on inputs or other circuits which the BCM does not control. Use the scan tool in order to check for current draws on circuits which are not controlled by the BCM or controlled be the battery run down protection system. If an excessive current draw is detected see BATTERY ELECTRICAL DRAIN/PARASITIC LOAD
