Diagnostic Procedures
- If OBD system check has been performed, go to next step. If OBD system check has not been performed, see ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check if any other DTCs are set. If other DTCs are set, diagnose using appropriate DTC test. If no other DTCs are set, go to next step.
- Check connection at fuel solenoid driver. Clear DTCs and cycle ignition. Start and idle engine. Using scan tool, activate time set procedure (diagnostic will only run when time set procedure is performed). Exit time set procedure. Select DTC, SPECIFIC, and then enter DTC P1218. If scan tool indicates test ran and passed, go to step 5. If scan tool does not indicate test ran and passed, go to next step.
- Replace fuel injection pump. After replacement, new pump must be timed. See appropriate ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. After repairs, go to step 6.
- DTC is intermittent. If no additional DTCs are set, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If any additional DTCs are set, perform appropriate DTC test.
- Check if any other DTCs are set. If other DTCs are set, diagnose using appropriate DTC test. If no other DTCs are set, system is okay.
