Section 116 (Engine Control System & Component Tests 6.5L Diesel): Introduction

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1998 GMC Pickup, 1998 GMC Cab & Chassis, 1998 Chevrolet Pickup, and 1998 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Before testing separate components or systems, perform BASIC TESTING - 6.5L DIESEL article. Since many computer-controlled and monitored components set a trouble code if they malfunction, also perform procedures in TESTS W/CODES - 6.5L DIESEL article.

NOTE: Testing individual components does not isolate shorts or opens. Perform all voltage tests with a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter and refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS - 6.5L DIESEL to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
