System Check
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If SECURITY light illuminates for 3 seconds, then turns off, go to step 4). If SECURITY light does not illuminate for 3 seconds, then turn off, go to next step.
- If SECURITY light flashes, go to step 15). If light is not flashing, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine starts, go to step 15). If engine does not start, go to SYSTEM TEST .
- Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine starts, go to next step. If engine does not start, go to step 8).
- If SECURITY light is on, or customer reports light is on during normal driving conditions, go to next step. If light is not illuminated while engine is running, system is normal.
- Using a scan tool, attempt to communicate with vehicle. If communication exists, go to next step. If communication does not exist, go to step 17).
- Check for current PASSLOCK(R) or powertrain DTCs. If any DTCs exist, diagnose and repair problem. For powertrain DTCs, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES

For PASSLOCK(R) DTCs, see DIAGNOSTIC TESTS . If no DTCs exist, diagnose and repair instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL article.
- If SECURITY indicator is off, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator is illuminated, go to step 12).
- If engine cranked normally, go to next step. If engine did not crank normally, go to step 11).
- Check fuel delivery. See BASIC TESTING article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.
- Check starting system. See STARTER article in ELECTRICAL.
- If SECURITY indicator is on steady, go to next step. If SECURITY indicator is not on steady, go to step 15).
- Check for current PASSLOCK(R) DTCs. If no DTCs exist go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to applicable test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .
- Diagnose and repair instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL article. After repair, go to step 18).
- Check for current PASSLOCK(R) or powertrain DTCs. If any DTCs exist, diagnose and repair problem. For powertrain DTCs, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES

For PASSLOCK(R) DTCs, see DIAGNOSTIC TESTS . If no DTCs exist, diagnose and repair instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL article.
- Using scan tool, check for current PASSLOCK(R) DTCs in TBC. If communication does not exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, go to applicable test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .
- Repair Class 2 serial data line communications. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Go to next step.
- Clear DTCs. Go to SYSTEM TEST.
