Description & Operation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 14 other vehicles, including the 1998 Saturn SW2, 1998 Saturn SW1, 1998 Saturn SL2, 1998 Saturn SL1, and 1998 Saturn SL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system consists of a RKE module and 2 transmitters. RKE module can be programmed with up to 4 transmitters. Transmitter sends a signal to RKE module when LOCK, UNLOCK, DECKLID/LIFTGATE (vehicle symbol) or PANIC (horn symbol) button is depressed. RKE module interprets signal, decodes it, and activates required circuitry to provide requested function. RKE module range is up to 26 feet (8 meters).

When UNLOCK button on RKE transmitter is depressed once, unlocks driver's door. If depressed twice within 5 seconds, remaining doors will unlock and dome light will illuminates for 40 seconds or until ignition switch is turned to RUN position (with dome light in DOOR position). Security system is disabled when UNLOCK button is depressed. This is confirmed by 2 horn chirps if chirp mode is enabled.

When LOCK button is depressed on RKE transmitter, all doors will lock and dome light will remain illuminated for 2 seconds after doors are closed.

When DECKLID/LIFTGATE RELEASE button on RKE transmission is depressed, decklid or liftgate will unlock when ignition is off and or vehicle is stationary. Dome light will illuminate for 40 seconds, or until ignition switch is turned to RUN position.

When Red PANIC button on RKE transmitter is depressed, horn will sound and dome light will flash for 2 minutes, or until PANIC button is depressed again, whichever occurs first.
