Reassembly (Auto. Trans., Column Shift)
- Install floor pan cover. Loosely install upper adjusting ring and attaching screw. Lubricate all keys and small diameter ends of shift tube. Place felt seal on shift tube. Push in place up to spring. Place shift tube in column being careful not to tear felt seal. Install instrument panel jacket cover to column but do not tighten. Align three holes in selector plate with three holes in bottom of column. Install clamping ring and align these three holes and install three bolts. Do not tighten.
- Lubricate with Lubriplate inner diameter of shift lever support housing and install on upper end of column assembly, fitting keyway in housing over key on shift tube. Install adjuster ring. Install lower adjuster ring attaching screws. Do not tighten. Carefully feed wires from directional signal housing through gear shift lever support housing. Secure three clutch head screws to housing.
- Install anti-rattle spring on end of selector lever and install lever into housing. Secure lever with roll pin. Push rubber boot into place. Rotate upper adjusting ring until tight and back off only enough to allow lever support housing to rotate freely. This can be done by rotating adjusting ring and screws. Position tang on shift lever on ear of selector plate, then rotate adjusting ring until there is specified clearance or end play between adjusting ring and shift lever. Install neutral start switch and tighten all screws.
