Disassembly (Man. Trans., Column Shift)

  1. Slide rubber grommet back from shift lever support housing; drive out selector lever pin and remove shift lever and the anti-rattle spring. Remove steering wheel retaining nut and washer from shaft and remove steering wheel.
  2. Remove three screws from directional signal housing; rotate housing and remove horn bushing and housing. Remove shifter lever housing. Place column upright on floor while supporting with two pieces of wood. Push down on 2nd-3rd gear lever with foot and place block of wood on upper end of tube. Tap on block to remove tube and withdraw from column assembly. If tube does not withdraw easily, use a suitable press to remove.
  3. Remove felt seal from shifter tube. Remove floor pan cover, when present, from column. Remove upper adjusting ring. Inspect all components for wear, rust and corrosion.
