All Models (1967-69): Reassembly
- Install dash panel seal, firewall seal, and clamp onto column. Lubricate all bearing surfaces on shift tube. Place felt seal on shift tube (omit if floor shift). Insert shift tube into column (omit if floor shift). On vehicles with three speed manual transmission, temporarily install spacer, 1st-Reverse shifter lever, and lower adjusting ring. Place a block of wood on top of adjusting ring and tap until shift tube bottoms. Remove spacer, 1st-Reverse shift lever, and adjusting ring.NOTE: Bearing must seat against three locating tabs.
- On vehicles with automatic transmissions, align three holes in selector plate with three holes in bottom of column. Position clamping ring, align holes, and install three bolts. On vehicles with manual transmissions, lubricate and install spacer and 1st-Reverse shifter lever with tang on lever towards top of mast jacket (omit if floor shift). Install lower adjusting ring with clamp and attaching screws.
- Position bushing seat and bushing on upper end of column. Lubricate with Lubriplate inner diameter of shift lever support housing and install on upper end of mast jacket assembly, fitting keyway in housing over key on shift tube. Position spacer and trust washer onto upper end of shift housing. Install directional signal switch and housing assembly, feeding wires through gear shift lever support housing. Secure with three attaching screws.
- On vehicles with manual transmission, rotate adjusting ring until there is specified end play between adjusting ring and 1st-Reverse shift lever as shown in illustration. Tighten adjusting ring screws (omit if floor shift). On vehicles with automatic transmission, position tang on shift lever on ear of selector plate, then rotate adjusting ring until there is specified clearance or end play between adjusting ring and shift lever. Tighten screws.
- Position clamp, washer, spring, and lower support bearing on steering shaft, and insert shaft into column from bottom. Install nut and washer on steering wheel end of steering shaft to hold shaft in position.
