  2. Place shifter tube in column being careful not to tear felt seal. Temporarily install spacer, 1st-Reverse shift lever washer and lower adjusting ring. Place a block of wood on top of adjusting ring and tap until shifting tube bottoms. Remove spacer, 1st-Reverse shift lever and adjusting ring.
NOTE: Shift tube must be positioned so that lower return spring seat engages notch in lower end of column. Bearing must be seated against the three locating tabs.
  3. Lubricate with Lubriplate inner diameter of shift lever support housing and install on upper end of column, fitting keyway over key on shift tube. Lubricate and install spacer, 1st-Reverse shift lever (tang on lever must be toward top of column), and adjusting ring. Install lower adjusting ring attaching screws. Do not tighten.

  4. Carefully feed wires from directional signal housing through gear shift lever support housing and secure in retaining clips in column. Secure three clutch head screws to housing. Rotate adjusting ring until there is specified end play between adjusting ring and 1st-Reverse shift lever. Tighten adjusting ring screws.
  5. Install anti-rattle spring on end of selector lever, and install selector lever support housing. Secure lever with roll pin. Push rubber boot into place. Rotate upper adjusting ring until tight and back off only enough to allow lever support housing to rotate freely. This can be done by rotating adjusting ring and screws.
