Inspection and Verification

Diagnostics in this Service Information assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. REFER to: Diagnostic Methods .

1. Verify the customer concern by operating the vehicle to duplicate the condition.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. If the cause is not visually evident, retrieve all GSM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart 
5. If no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are present, verify the symptom and refer to Global Customer Symptom Code (GCSC) Chart  the Global Customer Symptom Code (GCSC) Chart.
