Axle Assembly: Removal

- Remove the front driveshaft. Refer to: Front Driveshaft .
- Remove the front halfshafts. Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH . Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH .
- If equipped. Remove the bolts and the engine front undershield.
- If equipped. Remove the bolts and the engine front undershield.
- If equipped. Remove the bolts and the front axle skid plate.
- Remove the pin-type retainers and the LH fender splash shield.

- Remove and discard the rivet-type push pin.
- Remove the bolt and the oil filter shield.

NOTE: The bolt and nut are to be reused.
Remove the front axle carrier upper mounting bracket bolt and the nut.
- Using transmission jack, support the front axle assembly. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

NOTE: The component should be reused unless damaged or has excessive wear.
- Remove and discard the front axle tube bushing bolt.
- Remove the front axle tube bushing support bracket. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

NOTE: The component should be reused unless damaged or has excessive wear.
- Remove and discard the front axle cover bushing bolt.
- Remove and discard the nuts.
- Remove the front axle cover mounting support bracket. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
- Detach the hose from the metal breather tube.
- Position the axle assembly slightly toward the center of the vehicle.
- Lower the transmission jack and the front axle assembly. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
If required.
- Place the axle assembly on the workbench.

NOTE: The component should be reused unless damaged or has excessive wear.
Remove and discard the bolts.
- Disconnect and remove the front axle carrier mounting bracket from the axle assembly.
