Transfer Case

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING - OVERVIEW .
- Disconnect the battery terminals. Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: SINGLE BATTERY / BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: DUAL BATTERIES .
- Drain the transfer case. Refer to: Transfer Case Draining and Filling .
- Remove the rear driveshaft. Refer to: REAR DRIVESHAFT .
- Remove the dual catalytic converter y-pipe. Refer to: Dual Catalytic Converter Y-Pipe - AWD (EcoBoost) . Refer to: Dual Catalytic Converter Y-Pipe - AWD (Duratec) .
- Remove the retainers and the muffler bracket.
- If equipped
- Remove the rivet. Use the General Equipment: 6 mm Drill Bit
- Remove the retainers and the muffler heat shield.

- Remove the retainers and the muffler heat shield.

- Remove the rivets. Use the General Equipment: 6 mm Drill Bit
- Remove the retainers and the front floor heat shield.
- Remove the transmission support insulator. Refer to: Transmission Support Insulator .
- Disconnect the transfer case electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainers.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.

NOTE: Make sure that the vent hose/valve is not blocked.
- Detach the transfer case vent hose retainer.
- Remove the transfer case vent hose.
- Remove the torque arm retainer.
- Remove the transfer case mounting bolts.

- Support the front driveshaft.
- Remove the transfer case mounting bolts.
- Remove the transfer case.
