Oil Pump: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist using the front and mid lift points. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the bolts and the engine underbody cover.

  3. Lower the vehicle and position the hoist using the front and rear lift points. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  4. Remove the RH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
    • Remove the oil pan drain plugs and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    • Install the oil pan drain bolts.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

  5. NOTE: Use a Lisle® 61570 - 76 mm - 14 flutes end cap wrench.
    NOTE: Place a rag over the cross bar when removing the oil filter to catch drips from the oil filter.

    Using a oil filter end cap wrench, remove and discard the engine oil filter.

    • Remove the auxiliary oil cooler drain plug and drain the auxiliary oil cooler lines and engine oil pump assembly. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    • Install the oil pan drain plug.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

    1. Using hose locking pliers, clamp the oil cooler coolant hoses. Use the General Equipment: Locking Pliers
    2. Loosen the clamps and remove the coolant hoses.

  6. Remove the nuts, bolts and the RH support bar.

    • Remove the M8 bolt and the oil pump tensioner.

    • Remove the oil pump belt from the oil pump pulley.

  7. Remove the bellhousing-to-oil pump bolt.

  8. Remove the bolts and the oil pump tube.

  9. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

    1. Remove the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tube support bracket bolt.
    2. NOTE: Use a AN Wrench (such as an Summit Racing® AN hose end wrench, or equivalent).
      NOTE: Only use the appropriately sized AN Wrench to hold the male fitting while loosening the female fitting.

      Loosen the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tube fittings.

    3. Remove the bolt and the auxiliary oil cooler return tube.
    4. Remove the bolt and the auxiliary oil cooler supply tube.

    1. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
    2. Inspect the 37 degree flare of the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tubes for damage and replace if necessary.

  10. If not replaced, clean the lower auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tubes with brake clean.

    Material: Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner / PM-4-A, PM-4-B

  11. Remove the bolts and the lower auxiliary oil cooler bracket.

  12. Remove the bolts and the turbocharger oil return tube.

  13. Remove and discard the gasket and O-ring seal.

  16. NOTE: There is an oil pump-to-bellhousing shim, make sure the shim is removed.
    NOTE: If the oil pump is being replaced, the shim gap must be measured in installation.
    NOTE: If the oil pump is not replaced, the original shim can be reused.

    Remove the bolts and the oil pump assembly and the shim.

  17. Remove and discard the gasket and O-ring seal.
