Instrument Panel: Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
  1. Remove the floor console. Refer to: Floor Console  .
  2. NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.

    On both sides, remove the front door scuff plate trim panel.

    1. Remove the screws.
    2. Release the clips.

  3. Remove the center A-pillar trim panel. Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover

  4. Remove the fasteners and the lower A-pillar trim panel.

  5. Remove the instrument panel upper section. Refer to: Instrument Panel Upper Section  .
  6. NOTE: On installation, tighten the lower bolts first, then the bolts to ensure the IPC is fully seated.

    Remove the bolts and the IPC.

    • Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  7. NOTE: On installation, install the lower edge of vent first.

    Remove the screws, release the clip and remove the LH dash vent.

  8. Remove the headlamp switch and bezel assembly.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.

  9. NOTE: On installation, install the lower edge of vent first.

    Remove the screws, release the clips and remove the RH dash vent.

  10. Remove the fasteners and the access panel.

  11. Remove the two nuts and the toe panel.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

  12. Remove the screws and the close out panel.

  13. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  14. Remove the screws and the RH close out panel.

  15. Remove the LH close out panel.

    • Remove the screws from the close out panel.

    • Slide the hood release handle through the close out panel.

  16. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

  17. Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to: Steering Column Shrouds .
  18. NOTE: Mark the wire tie locations with a marker to retain the same harness routing.

    Cut the harness wire ties, release the harness retainer, disconnect the electrical connectors and position aside the harness.

  19. Remove the finish panel.

  20. NOTE: On installation, tighten this bolt and the bolt in step 21 first to aid in centering the instrument panel.

    Remove the instrument panel bolt.

    Torque: 93 lb.in (10.5 Nm)

  21. Remove the HVAC control module. Refer to: Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Control Module .
  22. NOTE: On both sides of center support bracket.

    Remove the instrument panel center support bolts.

    Torque: 93 lb.in (10.5 Nm)

    1. NOTE: On installation, tighten this bolt and the bolt in step 19 first to aid in centering the instrument panel.

      Remove LH instrument panel bolts.

      Torque: 93 lb.in (10.5 Nm)

    2. Remove LH instrument panel bolts.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25.0 Nm)

  23. Remove RH instrument panel bolts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25.0 Nm)

  24. Disconnect the electrical connectors behind the lower RH corner of the instrument panel.

  25. NOTE: Use protective material on the floor surfaces and door openings to prevent damaging the instrument panel when removing the instrument panel from the vehicle.
    NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.
    NOTE: Cut, discard and replace any zip tie retainers that hold the dash harness to the body.
    NOTE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.

    Release the harness retainers and route the upper instrument panel harness around the steering column and remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
