The sensor measures front differential ring gear speed.
If the front axle disconnect actuator is connected, then the sensor measured RPM will be the same as the average halfshaft speed.
If the front axle disconnect actuator is disconnected, the sensor value reflects only differential ring gear speed which can be used to calculate front drive shaft speed.
