Rear Drive Unit (RDU)

The hydraulic actuation system consists of the AWD module, an electric motor driven hydraulic pump, left and right solenoids and left and right clutch packs. The AWD hydraulic pump motor uses a 3-phase electronically controlled brushless DC-motor that is connected to a pump providing the line pressure for the two variable pressure AWD clutch solenoids. The two AWD clutch solenoids are used to pressurize the clutches in the rear drive unit to control the input torque from the engine driveshaft to the left and right rear wheels. The Rear Drive Unit (RDU) uses hydraulic fluid separate from the gear lubricant used in the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) and is not serviceable. In the event the hydraulic system needs to be bled, there is a bleed procedure in the scan tool that accomplishes the system bleed electronically.
