Removal And Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Lincoln MKT. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: On the first press of the seat control switch after the seat is repaired and a new system component has been installed, the PFSM moves the seat to the home position (seat folded and latched to the floor) before continuing to move to the selected seat position. This allows the PFSM to relearn the position of the affected motors.

All seats 

  1. 1.

    Position the affected seat to the load floor position.

Seat with inoperable seat latch 

  1. 2.

    NOTE: RH seat shown, LH similar.

    Push the cushion cover and foam pad back and locate the power seat latch by-pass cut-out in the bracket.

  1. 3.

    Slide a screwdriver through the latch bracket opening and down until it bottoms out on the latch mechanism.
    • The screwdriver must be straight up and down and not on an angle or the screwdriver will not come in contact with the latch release lever.

  1. 4.

    Pivot the screwdriver handle toward the front of the seat, releasing the latch.

Seat with inoperable stow motor

    NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.

    Pry to release the clips and remove the backrest latch outer cover.

  1. 6.

    NOTE: Make sure the wire harness is not damaged while positioning the release lever or the power-fold seat will not operate correctly.
    NOTE: LH seat shown, RH similar.

    Position the pivot release lever down and pivot the seat away from the floor striker.

    • When installing, make sure the pivot lever is engaged.

All seats 

  1. 7.

    NOTE: Do not lift the load floor flapper panels too far or damage to the wire harness retainers will occur.

    Separate the 2 load floor supports (1 shown).

    • Push the load floor support rearward and slightly lift the load floor to disengage.

  1. 8.

    Detach the wire harness retainers.

    1. 1.

      Slightly raise the LH load floor flapper panel and detach the wire harness retainer attached to the load floor support studs.

    1. 2.

      Slightly raise the RH load floor flapper panel and disengage the wire harness pin-type retainer from the load floor support.

  1. 9.

    Fold both load floor flapper panels back over exposing the Power-Fold Seat Module (PFSM) and wire harness.

  1. 10.

    To install a new RH power seat latch, from the RH load floor flapper panel, detach the 2 wire harness retainers and disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

  1. 11.

    To install a new LH power seat latch, from the LH load floor flapper panel, detach the 3 wire harness retainers, disconnect the electrical connector, disengage and remove the Power-Fold Seat Module (PFSM) with wire harness.

  1. 12.

    On the side of the power seat latch to be installed new, remove the 2 load floor panel screws at the back of the cushion.

  1. 13.

    Pull out to release the retainers and remove the load floor panel.

  1. 14.

    Remove the screw, release the tab and remove the latch cover.

  1. 15.

    Release the cushion cover retainers from the cushion frame enough to access the power seat latch retainers and electrical connectors.

  1. 16.

    Remove the power seat latch in the following sequence.

    1. 1.

      Remove the 2 screws.
      • To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

    1. 2.

      Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

  1. 17.

    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
