In-Vehicle Repair: Solenoids: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the screws and the underbody cover.

  3. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) assembly. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING - 2.5L or INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING - 3.0L (4V) .
  4. Remove the transmission fluid drain plug and allow the transmission fluid to drain.

  5. Install the transmission fluid drain plug.
    • Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).

  6. Disconnect the transaxle electrical connector.

  7. Remove the transaxle electrical wiring harness retainers from the main control cover stud bolts.

  8. Remove the 2 nuts, pull the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket and tubes away from the transaxle and position it aside.

  9. NOTE: Note the location of the stud bolts for assembly.

  10. Remove the 8 bolts, 5 stud bolts and the main control cover.
  11. Disconnect the Transmission Range (TR) sensor electrical connector.

  12. Disconnect the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.

  13. Remove the main control cover grommet.

  14. NOTE: Be careful not to bend or twist the leadframe or the solenoid terminals when removing the leadframe or damage can occur to the leadframe or the solenoids.

  15. Remove the 5 screws and the leadframe from the solenoids by lifting it straight up evenly.
  16. Using a paint pen, number the solenoids and solenoid body to clearly mark which solenoid was removed from which bore in the solenoid body.

  17. Remove the solenoid retaining pin(s).

  18. Remove the solenoid(s) from the solenoid body.
