Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU): Removal

WARNING: Do not use any fluid other than clean brake fluid meeting manufacturer's specification. Additionally, do not use brake fluid that has been previously drained. Following these instructions will help prevent system contamination, brake component damage and the risk of serious personal injury.

NOTE: Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.
  1. If installing a new ABS module, upload the ABS module configuration to the scan tool. REFER to PROGRAMMABLE MODULE INSTALLATION (PMI) .
  2. Remove the ACL. REFER to INTAKE AIR SYSTEM COMPONENTS - EXPLODED VIEW .
  3. Remove the battery and battery tray. REFER to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION - Battery and Battery Tray - Exploded View.
  4. Disconnect the brake tubes from the HCU.
    • To install, tighten the master cylinder primary and secondary brake tube fittings to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
    • Tighten the remaining brake tube fittings to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
  5. Disconnect the ABS module electrical connector.
  6. Remove the HCU bracket bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
  7. Remove the HCU and ABS module as an assembly.
