EMISSION RECALL 13E04
SUBJECT
Emission Recall 13E04
Certain 2011 Model Year Explorer, Edge, And MKX Vehicles
PCM Configuration Error
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 2011 model year Explorer vehicles built at the Chicago Assembly Plant from August 9, 2010 through January 5, 2011 and 2011 model year Edge/MKX vehicles built at the Oakville Assembly Plant from February 12, 2010 through August 8, 2011, that received a PCM recalibration in service. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS. In addition, for a list of vehicles assigned to your dealership, visit https://web.fsavinlists.dealerconnection.com. This information will be available on February 14, 2014.
REASON FOR THIS EMISSION RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the "Learn" command may not have been performed when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) was reprogrammed in service. This condition will cause a reset of the OBD-II system on every vehicle power-up cycle, which leads to a "Not Ready" condition and sets a non-MIL P160A DTC. While no driveability symptoms will be present during vehicle operation, the OBD system will not function normally and MIL indication will be inhibited.
SERVICE ACTION
Dealers are to use IDS version 88.01 and determine if DTC P160A is present in memory.
- If DTC P160A is not present in memory, no repair action is required.
- If DTC P160A code is present, dealers need to perform a "Learn" command using the IDS tool.
This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
Owner Letters are expected to be mailed in the beginning of the second quarter. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.
PLEASE NOTE
The sale of uncorrected new vehicles to customers could lead to penalties under applicable state and Federal regulations. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory prior to delivery.

EMISSION RECALL 13E04
CERTAIN 2011 MODEL YEAR EXPLORER, EDGE, AND MKX VEHICLES - PCM CONFIGURATION ERROR
OVERVIEW
In some of the affected vehicles, the "Learn" command may not have been performed when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) was reprogrammed in service. If the "Learn" command is not performed in conjunction with the service reprogram, a VIN mismatch will exist between the PCM and the Body Control Module (BCM). The VIN mismatch will cause a reset of the OBD-II system on every vehicle power-up cycle, which leads to a "Not Ready" condition and sets a non-MIL P160A DTC. While no driveability symptoms will be present during vehicle operation, the OBD system will not function normally and MIL indication will be inhibited.
Dealers are to use IDS version 88.01 and determine if DTC P160A is present in memory.
- If DTC P160A code is not present in memory, no repair action is required.
- If DTC P160A code is
present, dealers need to perform a "Learn" command using the IDS tool.NOTE: The service IDS tool software (version 88.01 or higher) has been revised for the affected vehicle applications to automatically perform the "Learn" command when a PCM reprogram procedure is performed in service.
