Pinpoint Test

  1. RETRIEVE THE Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Parking Aid Module (PAM) SELF-TEST
    1. Check the Parking Aid Module (PAM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.
    • Are multiple Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
    • Yes:  GO to 2  on page 2.
    • No:  GO to  3 on page 2.
  2. CHECK THE CONNECTORS FOR CORRECT LATCHING AND THE BUMPER WIRING HARNESS FOR DAMAGE
    1. Inspect the Parking Aid Module (PAM) and sensor connectors for correct latching by pulling on the latched connector.
    2. Inspect the bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts or corrosion.
    • Are the connectors correctly latched and the bumper wiring harness OK? 
    • Yes:  GO to 3  on page 2.
    • No:  Correctly LATCH the connectors or REPAIR or INSTALL a new bumper wiring harness.
  3. CHECK THE SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR SHORTS TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Suspect Parking Aid Sensor.
    3. Disconnect: Parking Aid Module (PAM).
    4. Ignition ON.
    5. Measure:

    • Is any voltage present? 
    • Yes:  REPAIR the circuit(s) in question.
    • No:  GO to 4  on page 3.
  4. CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes:  INSTALL a new sensor(s) for the sensor(s) in question. REFER to Parking Aid Sensor . CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REPEAT the Parking Aid Module (PAM) self-test.

      If the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) returns, GO to 5  on page 3.

    • No:  REPAIR the circuits in question.
  5. CHECK FOR CORRECT Parking Aid Module (PAM) OPERATION
  1. Disconnect and inspect the Parking Aid Module (PAM) connector.
  2. Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  3. Reconnect the Parking Aid Module (PAM) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
