Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK FOR Head Up Display (HUD) MODULE Light-emitting Diode (LED) PROVE OUT TEST
    NOTE: Remove the vehicle from the extreme heat source or sunload condition prior to testing the vehicle.
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. While placing the ignition in RUN, observe the Head Up Display (HUD) module Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs).
      • Do the Head Up Display (HUD) module Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs) illuminate? 
      • Yes:  The Head Up Display (HUD) module Light-emitting Diodes (LEDs) are operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by extreme temperatures.
      • No:  GO to step 2 .
  2. CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, perform a network test.
      • Does the Head Up Display (HUD) module pass the network test? 
  3. CHECK THE Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Head Up Display (HUD) MODULE SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Head Up Display (HUD) module self-test.
      • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
  4. CHECK THE Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) self-test.
      • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
  5. CHECK FOR CORRECT Head Up Display (HUD) MODULE OPERATION
    1. Disconnect and inspect the Head Up Display (HUD) module connector.
    2. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    3. Reconnect the Head Up Display (HUD) module connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
      • Is the concern still present? 
      • Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Head Up Display (HUD) module. REFER to HEAD UP DISPLAY (HUD) MODULE .
      • No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
