All vehicles

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. NOTE: If an internal problem is suspected, drain the transmission fluid through a paper filter. A small amount of metal or friction particles may be found from normal wear. If an excessive amount of metal or friction material is present, the transaxle will need to be overhauled.

Remove the transmission fluid drain plug and allow the transmission fluid to drain.

Vehicles equipped with a 3.5L engine

  4. Remove the transmission fluid level indicator. If the transaxle was removed and disassembled, fill the transaxle with 6.2L (6.5 qt) of clean transmission fluid. If the main control cover was removed for in-vehicle repair, fill the transaxle with 4.3L (4.5 qt) of clean transmission fluid.

Vehicles equipped with a 3.5L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine

  5. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL). For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  6. Connect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and position the ACL  assembly and outlet pipe on the turbocharger inlet pipe, positioned aside to access the transmission fluid level indicator. Tighten the clamp.
    • Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

    All vehicles

  8. Start the engine and let it run for 3 minutes. Move the range selector lever into each gear position. Check the transmission fluid level and adjust the transmission fluid level.
    1. Correct transmission fluid level at normal operating temperature 82°C-93°C (180°F-200°F).
    2. Low transmission fluid level.
    3. High transmission fluid level.
