Seat Backrest - Front: Assembly

  1. Install the seat backrest lumbar support.

    WARNING: Inspect the mounting surfaces of the side air bag module and the seat backrest frame mounting bracket for any foreign objects before installing the side air bag module. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.
    WARNING: Inspect the side air bag cavity in the seat back pad for any foreign objects. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.
    WARNING: Before installing the side air bag module, check it for damage and foreign objects. If the air bag module is damaged, replace it. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.
    WARNING: If the air bag cover has separated or the air bag material has been exposed, install a new side air bag module. Do not attempt to repair the air bag module. Failure to do so may result in personal injury, in the event of an air bag deployment.
  3. Route the side air bag module wiring harness and side air bag module through the outboard opening in the side of the seat backrest frame and onto the mounting bracket.
  4. Install the side air bag module retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  5. NOTE: If the pin-type retainers are damaged, install new retainers. This will keep the wire harness routed correctly.
  6. Route the side air bag module wire harness along the seat backrest frame and install the pin-type retainers.

  8. Install the foam pad over the seat backrest frame.
  9. NOTE: If the pin-type retainers are damaged, install new retainers. This will keep the wiring harness routed correctly.
  10. Route the side air bag wiring harness along the side of the seat and install the pin-type retainer to the outside of the seat backrest frame.
  11. Position the trim cover to the seat backrest foam pad, then install the headrest guide pins.
  12. Fasten the trim cover J-clip to the backrest frame.
  13. WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with side air bags cannot be repaired. New trim covers are to be installed (cleaning is permissible).
    NOTE: Check that the foam pad is positioned around the seat backrest frame when repositioning the trim cover.
    NOTE: Replace the hog rings with stainless steel hog rings.
  14. Install the hog rings.
    1. Position the seat backrest trim cover to install the hog rings.
    2. Install 2 hog rings at each location indicated.

    WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with side air bags cannot be repaired. New trim covers are to be installed (cleaning is permissible).
    NOTE: Check that the foam pad is positioned around the seat backrest frame when repositioning the trim cover.
  16. Reposition the seat backrest trim cover and fasten the J-clip.
  17. Install the headrest to the seat backrest.
  18. Install the seat backrest. For additional information, refer to Seat Backrest - Front .
  19. Install the affected seat and repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Seat - Front .
