Steering Gear: Installation

  1. Install the steering gear from the left side of the vehicle.
  2. Install the stabilizer bar and the 2 stabilizer bar link nuts.
    • Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
  3. Install the 2 steering gear-to-crossmember nuts.
    • Tighten to 175 Nm (129 lb-ft).
  4. Using the special tool, install 2 new Teflon® seals on the power steering pressure line and the return line fittings.

  5. Install the power steering return line fitting.
    • Tighten to 36 Nm (27 lb-ft).
  6. Install the power steering pressure line fitting.
    • Tighten to 36 Nm (27 lb-ft).
  7. Install the intermediate shaft and the shaft-to-steering gear bolt.
    • Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
    • Install the steering gear boot to the steering gear.
  8. NOTE: New tie-rod end nuts must be installed.

    Install the tie-rod ends and 2 new tie-rod end nuts.

    • Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).
  9. Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to STEERING SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
