Principles of Operation
NOTE:
Upon installation of a new GEM, the module must be reconfigured. Refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION
prior to GEM removal.
The GEM receives inputs and delivers outputs to a majority of the electronically-controlled features of the vehicle. The GEM constantly monitors the systems under its control and reports a concern in the form of a diagnostic trouble code (DTC). The DTC can be retrieved with a diagnostic tool through the international standards organization (ISO) 9141 communication network. The GEM controls the following features:
- Battery saver relay
- Battery saver
- Warning chime
- Front and rear wipers
- Illuminated entry and interior lighting
- Door ajar warning indicator lamp
- Remote keyless entry (RKE)
- Power door lock system
- Perimeter alarm
