  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Remove the steering column shaft bolt.

  3. Remove the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  4. Remove the bolts and the battery tray.

  5. Remove the intake air hose.
    1. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose.
    2. Loosen the clamps.
    3. Remove the intake air hose.

  6. Remove the bolts and the resonator.

  7. Pressing the locking tab, disconnect the gearshift cables from the transaxle.
    1. Disconnect the shift cable from the shift mass.
    2. Disconnect the selector cable from the selector lever.

  8. Remove the gearshift levers for the bracket.
    1. Disconnect the shift cable from the bracket by turning the abutment sleeves counterclockwise.
    2. Disconnect the selector cable from the bracket by turning the abutment sleeves counterclockwise.

  9. Remove the bolt and the power steering line clamp.

  10. Disconnect the hydraulic clutch line and grommet from the retaining bracket.
  11. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) and the catalyst monitor sensor (CMS) electrical connectors. Remove the two nuts and the sensor bracket.

  12. Install the special tools.

  13. Remove the nuts and the rear engine mount.

  14. Remove the three bolts and the rear engine mount bracket.

  15. Disconnect the reverse lamp switch electrical connector.

  16. Disconnect the wire harness connectors, then remove the bolt retaining the wiring harness bracket.
  17. Remove the upper transmission-to-engine bolts.

  18. Raise the vehicle.
  19. Remove the tire and wheels. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
  20. Remove the engine roll restrictor.

  21. Remove the tie-rod end nuts.

  22. Using the special tool, separate the tie-rod ends from the wheel knuckles.

  23. Remove the nuts and separate the lower control arms from the wheel knuckles.

  24. Remove the nuts and separate the stabilizer bar links from the strut.

  25. Remove the bolt, then disconnect the power steering lines from the steering gear.

  26. NOTE: Index-mark the subframe to the chassis.

  27. Position a suitable lifting device under the subframe. Remove the six subframe bolts.
  28. Lower the subframe from the vehicle.

  29. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.

  30. Remove the locknuts and the intermediate shaft center bearing cap. Discard the locknuts and cap.

  31. NOTE: Use care removing the halfshaft, the splines on the halfshaft can damage the halfshaft seal. Do not let the halfshafts hang unsupported.

  32. Remove the RH halfshaft from the transmission. Position it aside and secure it with mechanic's wire.
  33. NOTE: Use care removing the halfshaft, the splines on the halfshaft can damage the halfshaft seal. Do not let the halfshafts hang unsupported.

  34. Using the special tool and a suitable slide hammer, remove the LH halfshaft from the transmission. Position it aside and secure it with mechanic's wire.
  35. Loosen the starter bolts, but do not remove the starter.

  36. Remove the clip, then disconnect the clutch hydraulic line.

  37. Position a suitable jack to the transmission. Secure the transmission to the jack. Remove the 10 transmission-to-engine bolts. Pull the transmission rearward until the input shaft is clear of the pressure plate, then lower the transmission from the vehicle.
