Condition Possible Sources Action
No communication with the audio unit
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuses:
    • 2 (5A).
    • 18 (20A).
    • 27 (10A).
  • J1850 communication network.
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST A .
The audio unit is inoperative/does not operate correctly
  • CJB fuses:
    • 2 (5A).
    • 18 (20A).
    • 27 (10A).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST B .
The CD player is inoperative/does not operate correctly
  • Audio unit.
 REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized Ford audio system repair facility. TEST the system for normal operation.
Poor reception
  • Antenna.
  • Antenna connections.
  • Radio frequency suppression equipment.
  • Antenna isolator module.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST C .
Continuous SEEK/SCAN in AM/FM
  • Antenna.
  • Antenna connections.
  • Antenna isolator module.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST D .
Poor quality/distorted sound from one or more speakers (not all speakers)
  • Speaker(s).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST E .
Poor quality/distorted sound from all speakers
  • Audio unit.
 REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized Ford audio system repair facility. TEST the system for normal operation.
No sound from one or more of the speakers (not all speakers)
  • Speaker(s).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.

No sound from one or more of the speakers (not all speakers) - center imaging
  • Speaker(s).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
  • Center imaging speaker amplifier.

No sound from all speakers

The subwoofer is inoperative
  • Rear battery junction box fuse 18 (20A).

Loud popping sound when cycling the ignition switch
