Forward Clutch Cylinder: Disassembly

  1. Remove the No. 6 forward clutch thrust washer.

  2. CAUTION: Pry evenly and do not locate screwdriver ends on or near forward clutch check ball to prevent component damage.

  3. Remove the forward clutch assembly.
  4. NOTE: The quantity of the forward clutch are model dependent. The 3.0L 2V has 3 forward clutch plates and the 3.0L 4V has 4 forward clutch plates.
  5. Remove the forward clutch plates.
    1. Remove the retaining ring.
    2. Remove the pressure plate.
    3. Remove the clutch packs.

  6. Using the special tool, disassemble the forward clutch cylinder.

  7. Clean and reseal the forward clutch.
    1. Remove the clutch return spring.
    2. Remove the clutch piston and seal assembly.
    3. Remove the inner piston seal.
