Removal and Installation

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the front axle halfshafts. For additional information, refer to FRONT AXLE HALFSHAFTS, BEARINGS AND SEALS .
- Remove the front driveshaft. For additional information, refer to FRONT DRIVESHAFT .
- Position a suitable hydraulic jack under the front axle. Securely strap the jack to the axle.
- Remove the parts in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Refill the axle with the specified quantity of the specified lubricant.
Item 5 and 8: Front Axle Assembly Isolation Bushing Removal Note
- Place the special tool on the bushing and index-mark the housing in line with the arrow on the special tool.
- Using a feeler gauge, measure the gap between the bushing flange and the axle housing. Record the measurement.
- Tap the special tool on between the axle housing and the bushing flange.
- Assemble the remaining remover tools. Remove and discard the isolator bushing.
Item 5 and 8: Front Axle Assembly Isolation Bushing Installation Note
- Set the new bushing in the housing bore and install the special tools. Align the arrow marks on the special tool with the index mark on the axle housing.
- Draw the bushing into the housing to the gap measured earlier in this procedure.
