Cylinder Head - RH: Installation

  1. Install the new cylinder head gasket and the RH cylinder head.
  2. CAUTION: Always use new bolts.
    NOTE: Lubricate the bolts with clean engine oil prior to installation.

  3. Install the new bolts. Make sure the bolts are installed in the correct locations.
    1. Install the 4 new long bolts.
    2. Install the 4 new short bolts.
  4. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in three stages.
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (14 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 40 Nm (29 lb-ft).
    • Stage 3: Tighten to 50 Nm (36 lb-ft).

  5. CAUTION: Each bolt must be loosened and the final tightening carried out prior to working on the next bolt in the sequence. Do not loosen all of the bolts at one time.

  6. Carry out the following final tightening process on each bolt in the sequence shown.
    • Long bolts:
      • Loosen the long bolt and back out 3 turns.
      • Tighten the long bolt to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
      • Tighten the long bolt an additional 180 degrees.
      • Go to in sequence.
    • Short bolts:
      • Loosen the short bolt and back out 3 turns.
      • Tighten the short bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
      • Tighten the short bolt an additional 180 degrees.
      • Go to in sequence.
  7. Install the RH exhaust manifold lower studs.
    • Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).

  8. Position the engine wiring harness bracket and install the bolt.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  9. Position the power steering mounting bracket and install the bolt.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  10. Install the 2 power steering mounting bracket bolts.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  11. Install the power steering mounting bracket bolt.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  12. Position the power steering pump and install the 4 bolts.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  13. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT, TENSIONER AND PULLEY  .
  14. Install the coolant pump outlet tube and the 2 bolts.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  15. Install the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD - RH .
  16. Install the push rods in the RH cylinder head. For additional information, refer to ROCKER ARMS, VALVE SPRINGS, PUSH RODS, VALVE TAPPETS .
  17. Install the RH exhaust manifold. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD - RH .
  18. Drain the engine oil.
    • Tighten to 26 Nm (19 lb-ft).

  19. NOTE: Lubricate the new oil filter seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.
  20. Install a new oil filter.
    • Tighten oil filter one half turn after gasket makes contact with oil filter housing.
  21. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
