Inspection and Verification: Notes
- Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.VISUAL INSPECTION
Mechanical Electrical - Front seat track motors.
- Front seat track binding or obstructed.
- Climate controlled seat ducts.
- Dirty or obstructed climate controlled seat fan motor filter.
- Fuse(s).
- Seat control switch.
- Memory set switch.
- Seat fan motor.
- Thermal electric device (TED).
- Climate controlled seat module.
- Heated seat module.
- Seat cushion heater element.
- Seat backrest heater element.
- Driver seat module (DSM).
- Loose or corroded connections.
- Seat wire harness cut or frayed.
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the concern is with the power seat (non-memory seat) or heated seats and the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
- If the concern is with the memory seat or climate controlled seat and the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the scan tool menu. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is correctly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.
- If the scan tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the scan tool manual.
- Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test. If the scan tool responds with:
- SCP+, SCP-, or UBP circuit fault; all ECUs no response/not equipped, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- No response not equipped for driver DSM, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- No response/not equipped for climate controlled seat module, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- SYSTEM PASSED for the DSM, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), clear the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the DSM.
- SYSTEM PASSED for the climate controlled seat module, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), clear the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the climate controlled seat module.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DSM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX or CLIMATE CONTROLLED SEAT MODULE (CCSM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
NOTE:
If a seat track motor is inoperative or the front seat track motor and transmission assembly is identified as the source of a noise, install a new front seat track motor and transmission assembly. For additional information, refer to FRONT SEAT TRACK MOTOR .
NOTE:
Before performing diagnostic testing for the driver seat module (DSM) wake the module by activating the power seat using the power seat switch, otherwise module communication failure will occur.
