Pinpoint Test D: The Wash And Wipe Function Are Inoperative
D1 DETERMINE FAULT
- Key in ON position.
- Turn the wiper/washer switch to the wash and wipe function and check for proper function.
- Do the wipers work?
Yes
GO to D2.
No
GO to D5.
D2 CHECK VOLTAGE TO WASHER PUMP
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor C1397.
- Key in ON position.
- While measuring the voltage at the washer pump motor C1397 between pin 1 and 2, turn the wiper/washer switch to the wash and wipe function.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new washer pump. REFER to WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP AND RESERVOIR . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to D3.
D3 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-KA34 (WH/BK)
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Wiper/Washer Switch C2081.
- Measure the resistance between the washer pump motor pin 1, circuit 32-KA34 (WH/BK), harness side, and the wiper/washer switch C2081 pin 2, circuit 32-KA34 (WH/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to D4.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
D4 CHECK CIRCUIT 33-KA34 (YE/BK)
- Measure the resistance between the washer pump motor C1397 pin 2, circuit 33-KA34 (YE/BK), harness side, and the wiper/washer switch C2081 pin 4, circuit 33-KA34 (YE/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
D5 CHECK INTERMITTENT WIPE
- Turn the wiper/washer switch to the intermittent wipe function.
- Do the wipers work?
Yes
GO to D6.
No
CHECK the GEM. REFER to the WDS.
D6 CHECK WASHER PUMP INTEGRITY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Washer Pump Motor C1397.
- Key in ON position.
- While measuring the voltage between the washer pump motor C1397 pins 1 and 2, turn the wiper/washer switch to the wash and wipe function.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new washer pump motor. For additional information, refer to WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP AND RESERVOIR . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to D7.
D7 CHECK CIRCUIT 31-KA19 (BK)
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Wiper/Washer Switch C2081.
- Measure the resistance between the wiper/washer switch C2081 pin 3, circuit 31-KA19 (BK) harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to D8.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
D8 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-KA34 (WH/BK)
- Measure the resistance between the washer pump motor C1397 pin 1, circuit 32-KA34 (WH/BK) harness side and the wiper/washer switch C2081 pin 2, circuit 32-KA34 (WH/BK) harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to D9.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
D9 CHECK CIRCUIT 22-KA34 (YE/BK)
- Measure the resistance between the washer pump motor C1397 pin 2, circuit 33-KA34 (YE/BK) harness side and the wiper/washer switch C2081 pin 4, circuit 33-KA34 (YE/BK) harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
