Cylinder Head RH: Installation
- Clean and inspect the cylinder head for flatness. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Install a new head gasket on the cylinder block with the small hole to the front of the engine and position the cylinder head.
- Install the new bolts. Make sure the bolts are installed in the correct locations.
- Install new long bolts.
- Install new short bolts.
- Tighten the bolts in three stages in the sequence shown.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (14 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 40 Nm (29 lb-ft).
- Stage 3: Tighten to 50 Nm (36 lb-ft).
- Tighten the bolts in sequence in four stages: short bolts numbered 2, 4, 6 and 8:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 180 degrees. Long bolts numbered 1, 3, 5 and 7:
- Stage 3: Tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft).
- Stage 4: Tighten an additional 180 degrees.
- Install the push rods.
- Install the rocker arms. Tighten the bolts in two stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 32 Nm (24 lb-ft).
- Install the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER-RH .
- Install the exhaust manifold studs.
- Install the RH exhaust manifold. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD-RH .
- Install the spark plug wires.
- Install the power steering pump bracket and bolts.
- Install the heater tube.
- Install the power steering pump.
- Connect the power steering pressure tube.
- Install the accessory drive belt tensioner. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
- Install the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
CAUTION:
Always use new bolts.
NOTE:
Lubricate the bolts with clean engine oil prior to installation.
CAUTION:
Do not loosen all of the bolts at one time. Each bolt must be loosened and the final tightening carried out prior to working on the next bolt in the sequence.

Lubricate the push rods with clean engine oil prior to installation.
