Fuel Tank: Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain fuel from fuel tank. See FUEL TANK DRAINING . Raise vehicle on hoist. Remove filler pipe bolt and disconnect filler pipe hose connections to fuel tank. Disconnect fuel tank electrical connector. See Fig 1. Disconnect vapor tube fitting at left front of fuel tank. Disconnect EVAP canister tube and hose. Place a safety support under fuel tank.
  2. CAUTION: Filler pipe grommet must be removed prior to removing fuel tank from filler pipe or damage to fill tube check valve will occur.
  3. Remove front bolts from fuel tank support straps and swing left side strap aside. See Fig 2. Remove right side fuel tank support strap bolt and remove strap. Partially lower fuel tank and disconnect fuel line. See FUEL LINE CONNECTOR . Cut outer edge of pipe-to-tank grommet to facilitate pipe removal and carefully remove grommet from fuel tank. See Fig 3. Avoid damage to filler pipe check valve. Lower fuel tank from vehicle.
