Oil Pump: Installation

    CAUTION: The inner gerotor must be installed with the words "Out" or "Damper" toward the radiator or damper to prevent damage to the front cover.

  1. Install the inner gerotor on the crankshaft.
  2. CAUTION: The outer gerotor must be installed with the words "Out" or "Damper" toward the radiator or damper to prevent damage to the front cover.

  3. Assemble the oil pump body plate, outer gerotor and O-ring. Liberally apply oil to gerotor pump.
  4. Install the oil pump housing and bolts.

  5. Using special tool 303-144, install the crankshaft vibration damper.
    • A new crankshaft front seal must be installed whenever the crankshaft vibration damper is removed.
    • Apply RTV Silicone Sealant F5TZ-19G204-AB or equivalent meeting Navistar specification NAVSTR SLR to the crankshaft keyway prior to crankshaft vibration damper installation.
  6. Install the crankshaft pulley bolt and washer.
  7. Remove the breaker bar from the flywheel.
  8. Install the converter housing cover.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Install the radiator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  11. Add oil to the engine as necessary.
