SYMPTOM CHART

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • Loss of coolant
  • Hoses and hose connections.
  • Radiator (8005).
  • Water pump (8501).
  • Heater core (18476).
  • Gaskets.
  • Engine casting cracks.
  • Engine block core plugs.
  • The engine overheats
  • Engine coolant weak, contaminated or low.
  • Thermostat.
  • Fuse.
  • Constant control relay module (CCRM) (12B581).
  • Circuit.
  • Fan motor (8C607).
  • Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor (12A648).
  • Powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650).
  • The engine does not reach normal operating temperature
  • Thermostat.
  • Thermostat float/seat housing.
  • The block heater does not operate correctly
  • Power cord.
  • CHECK for continuity in all three power cord circuits. INSTALL a new power cord, if necessary.
  • Engine block heater.
  • INSTALL a new engine block heater.
  • The engine cooling fan high speed is inoperative
  • Constant control relay module.
  • Circuit.
  • Powertrain control module.
  • Fan motor.
