Front Seat Backrest: Assembly

WARNING: Inspect the mounting surfaces of the side air bag module and the seat back frame mounting bracket for any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.
WARNING: Inspect the side air bag cavity in the seat back pad for any foreign objects. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.
WARNING: Before installing the air bag module, check it for damage and foreign objects. If the side air bag module, check it for damage and foreign. If the air bag module is damaged, replace it. If any foreign objects are found, remove them. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.
WARNING: If the air bag cover has separated or the air bag material has been exposed, install a new side air bag module. Do not attempt to repair the air bag module. Failure to do so may result in personal injury in the event of an air bag deployment.
    NOTE: The inboard and outboard head restraint guides are not interchangeable.

  1. As marked during disassembly, install the inboard and outboard head restraint guides.
  2. Install the side air bag module onto the front seat back frame mounting bracket.
    1. Route the side air bag module wire harness through the outboard opening in the side of the seat back cushion.
    2. Position the side air bag module through the outboard opening in the side of the seat back cushion and onto the mounting bracket.
    3. NOTE: If installing a new side air bag module, use new retaining nuts. If the same side air bag module is to be reused, then reuse the side air bag module nuts.

    4. Install the side air bag module retaining nuts. Tighten to specification.
  3. Attach the top of the lumbar basket on the backrest frame.

  4. Hook the bottom of the lumbar basket on the backrest frame.

  5. CAUTION: New stainless steel hog rings must be installed on seats equipped with side air bag modules to ensure the correct deployment of the side air bag.

  6. Position the backrest cushion. Install new hog rings.
  7. CAUTION: Use care when attaching the backrest upholstery to the hook and loop fasteners to avoid tearing the fastener off the seat foam.

  8. Install the backrest upholstery and smooth out any wrinkles.
  9. Attach the backrest upholstery J-clip.

  10. Install the safety belt guide.

  11. Install the screw cover.

  12. Install the backrest on the lower seat frame. For additional information, refer to FRONT SEAT BACKREST .
  13. Install the seat front cushion side shield. For additional information, refer to FRONT SEAT CUSHION - SIDE SHIELD .
  14. Install the head restraint.
  15. Install the front seat and reactivate the SRS. For additional information, refer to FRONT SEAT .
