Disassembly And Assembly Of Subassemblies: Mainshaft: Disassembly

  1. Place the special tool in a vise then install the input shaft with the input shaft locknut facing downward. Remove the input shaft locknut.

  2. Remove the input shaft needle bearing.
    • Inspect the bearing for wear or damage. Install a new bearing as necessary.

  3. Remove the needle bearing.
    • Inspect the bearing for wear or damage. Install a new bearing as necessary.

  4. Remove the retaining ring.

  5. Remove the third and fourth gear synchronizer assembly.

  6. Disassemble the third and fourth gear synchronizer.
    • Inspect the synchronizer for wear or damage. Repair as necessary.

  7. Remove third gear.
    • Inspect the gear for wear or damage. Install a new gear as necessary.

  8. Remove the third gear needle bearing.
    • Inspect the bearing for wear or damage. Install a new bearing as necessary.

  9. NOTE: Place the Bearing/Oil Seal Plate in a vise.
  10. Rotate the input shaft and place it in the bearing/oil seal plate.
  11. Using the special tools, remove the input shaft bearing, fifth gear and the fifth gear needle bearing.
    • Inspect the bearing for wear or damage. Install a new bearing and cup as necessary. Install new bearings and cups in a set only. Do not install one without the other.
    • Inspect the needle bearing for wear or damage. Install a new bearing as necessary.
    • Inspect the gear for wear or damage. Install a new gear as necessary.
