Stabilizer Bar: Installation

    CAUTION: The stabilizer bar bushings must be located correctly on the flats of the stabilizer bar with no lubricant.

  1. Install the stabilizer bar bushings (both sides).
  2. Install the stabilizer bar.
    1. Locate the bushing against the spacer (both sides).
    2. Using suitable cable ties, support the stabilizer bar to specification (both sides).

  3. Install the stabilizer bar clamps.
    1. Apply water to the clamp to assist installation.
    2. Press the clamp onto the bushing.

  4. Install the stabilizer bar clamp rear retaining bolts.

  5. NOTE: Do not fully tighten stabilizer bar clamp front retaining bolts at this stage.
  6. Install the stabilizer bar clamp front retaining bolts.
  7. Tighten the stabilizer bar clamp retaining bolts.
    • Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two stages.
    • Stage 1: Tighten bolts 1 through 2 to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten bolts 1 through 2 to 70 Nm (52 lb-ft).

  8. Remove the cable ties supporting the stabilizer bar.
  9. CAUTION: Make sure the crossmember ball bearing washers and captives are installed correctly.

  10. Using the special tools, align the crossmember.
    1. Insert the guide pins through the crossmember alignment holes.
    2. Slide the locking plates into the grooves and tighten the guide pin sleeve.
    3. Raise the crossmember, engaging the guide pins into the chassis alignment holes.
  11. NOTE: Do not fully tighten the crossmember retaining bolts at this stage.

  12. Install the crossmember retaining bolts.
  13. Remove the crossmember RH alignment pin.
  14. CAUTION: While tightening the crossmember retaining bolts, make sure the crossmember does not move.

  15. Tighten the crossmember retaining bolts.
  16. Lower and remove the transmission jack.
  17. Remove the crossmember LH alignment pin.
  18. Install the support insulator to transaxle center bolt.

  19. CAUTION: Make sure the heat shield is installed to prevent damage to the ball joint.

  20. Install the lower arm ball joint.
    1. Install the lower arm ball joint.
    2. Install the bolt.
  21. Attach the stabilizer bar connecting links to the stabilizer bar (LH side shown).

  22. WARNING: Install new tie-rod end retaining nuts. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

  23. Attach the tie-rod ends to the wheel knuckles (LH side shown).
  24. Install the front wheels and tires. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
  25. WARNING: Make sure the vehicle is in the straight-ahead position, before lowering the vehicle.
  26. Lower the vehicle.
  27. WARNING: Install a new steering column pinch bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

  28. Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear pinion extension.
    1. Connect the pinion shaft extension to the steering column.
    2. Install the bolt.
  29. CAUTION: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
  30. Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
