WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Ford Windstar and 2002 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Start engine and measure voltage of Yellow/White wire at generator terminal B+ (component side). If voltage is less than 13 volts or more than 15 volts, perform TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION . If voltage is 13-15 volts, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect generator 3-pin connector. Start engine and let idle, wait 30 seconds and observe charge warning indicator. If charge warning indicator is off, inspect warning indicator bulb. Perform TEST J: CHARGE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR NEVER/ALWAYS ON under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If charge warning indicator is not off, continue diagnosis of PCM controlled charging system. See TEST HY: GENERATOR/REGULATOR SYSTEM under SYSTEM TESTS in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V - GASOLINE & NGV article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
