Description & Operation

Power side exterior rear view mirrors function allows either driver or passenger exterior rear view mirror to be positioned through use of the power mirror control switch. Driver or passenger exterior rear view mirror can be controlled by using mirror directional control switch. Moving switch to driver side selects driver mirror, moving switch to passenger side selects passenger mirror. Positioning of exterior rear view mirror is accomplished by actuating either UP, DOWN, LEFT or RIGHT mirror switches. Each mirror is equipped with a motor to control motion in vertical axis (UP/DOWN motion) and a motor to control motion in horizontal axis (LEFT/RIGHT motion). Motion continues until motor stall is detected (due to end of travel), a physical stop is reached, or switch is released. All mirror switches can only move in one direction at a time. Heated mirrors system (if equipped) removes frost, snow, ice or condensation from exterior side mirrors.

Heated exterior mirrors system heats exterior mirrors for up to 10 minutes through rear defrost switch upon request when ignition is in RUN position. This system stops heating mirrors upon request through heated rear window switch or after 10 minutes has elapsed since heating mirrors was initiated or when ignition switch is turned to LOCK or ACC position. When heated exterior mirrors system is active and ignition switch is turned to START position, heated exterior mirrors are momentarily deactivated as long as ignition switch is in START position and is reactivated when ignition switch returns to RUN position. Operation time of 10 minutes continues while ignition switch is in START position. Heated rear window indicator is illuminated whenever heated rear window and exterior mirrors are being heated.

Rear view mirror system consists of the following components:
