Description & Operation: Notes

Power door lock system consists of power door lock switches, door lock actuators, Generic Electronic Module (GEM) and necessary wiring. Switches are located in front door trim panels. To lock all doors, press power door lock switch on either door to lock position. To unlock all doors, press switch to unlock position.

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) consists of power door lock system, Generic Electronic Module (GEM) and up to 4 remote transmitters. Transmitters allow the driver to lock and unlock doors, and open the luggage compartment lid when engine is off and vehicle is not in gear. If RKE transmitter UNLOCK button is pressed once and GEM detects a valid transmission, anti-theft is disarmed (if equipped), driver's door only will unlock and will turn on illuminated entry lights. If RKE transmitter UNLOCK button is depressed a second time within 3 seconds, all doors will unlock. All doors will lock and anti-theft will activate if RKE transmitter LOCK button is depressed. If RKE transmitter LOCK button is depressed a second time within 3 seconds, all doors will lock again, horn will beep and parking lights will flash to indicate doors are locked. If GEM detects a door ajar, a signal to lock doors is again sent and horn is sounded twice.

Depressing RKE transmitter luggage compartment button will release luggage compartment lid latch or liftgate (wagon). Depressing RKE transmitter PANIC button will sound vehicle alarm and GEM will illuminate courtesy lights, flash parking lights and beep horn several times. Panic alarm can be turned off by depressing PANIC button again, depressing RKE transmitter UNLOCK button automatically deactivates alarm or by inserting ignition key and turning ignition switch to ACC or RUN positions.

Keyless entry keypad is hardwired to GEM. GEM interprets inputs from keyless entry keypad and then controls associated operation. Keyless entry keypad will be illuminated for five seconds when any button is pressed. Additionally, it will request illuminated entry feature to turn courtesy lamps on. If a lock all doors code is entered, illumination will turn off, as well as request illuminated entry feature to turn off courtesy lamps. When pressed, keyless entry keypad supplies ground signal to GEM or GEM receives a signal from keyless entry remote transmitter. Then GEM outputs a ground signal to appropriate lock or unlock relay which supplies power to actuator to lock or unlocks all doors, including luggage compartment. Keyless entry remote transmitter also unlocks liftgate (wagon) or activates panic alarm by sending a signal to GEM.

Luggage compartment release switch is located on dash, above parking brake release lever. Pressing luggage compartment release switch provides power to luggage compartment release solenoid which releases luggage compartment latch.
