Removal & Installation: Notes
WARNING:
Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Proper grounding of technician and workplace is essential to prevent damage.
CAUTION:
When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See appropriate COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
CAUTION:
Prior to removal of GEM, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester. This information needs to be downloaded into new module once installed.
CAUTION:
Before replacing any control module, ensure all module ground and power circuits are functioning properly. See POWER DISTRIBUTION and GROUND DISTRIBUTION in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
