Self-Diagnostic System

NOTE: This test is a Key On Engine Off (KOEO) test. Ensure gear selector is in Park, and parking brake is engaged. Manufacturer specifies ignition switch position during testing although it may not affect power distribution.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Place gear selector in Park. Ensure parking brake is engaged and brake pedal is released. While holding cruise control OFF button, turn ignition switch to RUN position. CRUISE CONTROL indicator lighton instrument cluster will flash once to indicate successful entry into self-diagnostic mode. If CRUISE CONTROL indicator lightdoes not flash, repair system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS. If CRUISE CONTROL indicator light flashes once followed by 5 additional flashes, replace speed control servo/actuator. See SPEED CONTROL SERVO/ACTUATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Release cruise control OFF button. Within 5 seconds of entering self-diagnostics, press cruise control ON button. Press remaining cruise control buttons in the following sequence: RESUME, COAST and SET/ACCEL. As each button is pressed, CRUISE CONTROL indicator lightwill flash. Wait until indicator light goes out to press next button.
  3. After sequence has been completed, cruise control indicator light will flash to indicate test passed or failed. Also after last switch is depress a dynamic pull may occur. See FLASH CODE  table. Perform appropriate procedure or test as specified.
  4. Immediately after static test has passed, actuator performs a dynamic test by automatically operating throttle .04-.40" (1-10 mm). Observe throttle movement to witness any sticking of cable or linkage. Ensure throttle returns properly. If self-diagnostics does not pinpoint fault, repair system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.
