Spare Key Programming

NOTE: This procedure is used when customer does not have 2 programmed Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) keys and needs additional keys programmed into system without erasing stored key codes.
NOTE: The maximum number of Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) keys that can be programmed to system is 8. If 8 keys are already programmed to system, this procedure will not allow any further ignition keys to be programmed without erasing all stored key codes first. Number of keys programmed into system can be determined using PID NUMKEYS display in New Generation Star (NGS) tester.
  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC) located below steering column. Insert NEW unprogrammed encoded key into ignition switch. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using NGS tester with service card, enter SERVICE BAY FUNCTIONS. Select PCM from menu. Enter SECURITY ACCESS. This procedure will take 10 minutes to perform.
  2. From NGS tester menu, select IGNITION KEY CODE PROGRAM. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and disconnect NGS tester from DLC. Attempt to start vehicle using newly programmed encoded key. Vehicle engine should start and run normally if programmed correctly.
