Driver-Side Air Bag Module: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Record preset radio frequencies for reprogramming. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Remove 2 cover plugs from back of steering wheel. Remove 2 bolts retaining driver-side air bag module to steering wheel. Disconnect air bag module wiring connector from clockspring connector and remove driver-side air bag module.
  3. Remove air bag simulator from vehicle harness side of lower clockspring connector. Connect lower clockspring connector to vehicle harness connector. Connect air bag simulator to upper clockspring connector. Connect negative battery cable. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy.
