Test E: Power Lumbar Support Inoperative

  1. Operate seat back cushion to inflate position. If pump does not run, go to next step. If pump runs, go to step  7 .
  2. Check fuse No. 15 (15-amp) located in Central Junction Box (CJB). CJB is located behind left side of instrument panel. If fuse No. 15 is okay, go to next step. If fuse No. 15 is blown, check for short to ground in Dark Green wire between lumbar control switch harness connector C313 and fuse No. 15. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Check for short to ground in wiring between lumbar control switch and lumbar motor. Check for faulty lumbar motor and lumbar control switch. Repair as necessary.
  3. Disconnect lumbar control switch harness connector C313, located under driver's seat. Measure voltage between ground and lumbar control switch harness connector C313 Dark Green wire terminal. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Dark Green wire between lumbar control switch and fuse No. 15. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Disconnect lumbar motor harness connector C308. Measure resistance between ground and lumbar motor harness connector C308 Black wire terminal. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between lumbar motor and ground. Ground point is located in left rear of vehicle. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  5. Connect lumbar control switch harness connector C313. Measure voltage between ground and lumbar motor harness connector C308 Black/White wire terminal while operating lumbar control switch to inflate position. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace lumbar motor. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .
  6. Disconnect lumbar control switch harness connector C313. Measure resistance of Black/White wire between lumbar control switch harness connector C313 and lumbar motor harness connector C308. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace lumbar control switch. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/White wire between lumbar control switch and lumbar motor. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  7. Operate seat back cushion to inflate position. If seat back does not visually inflate, go to next step. If seat back visually inflates, go to step  11 .
  8. Visually inspect seatback cover. If seatback cover appears okay, go to next step. If seatback cover appears damaged, replace seatback cover or seat as necessary.
  9. Disconnect hose from lumbar motor. Operate seat back cushion to inflate position. If air is felt from port on lumbar motor, go to next step. If air is not felt from port on lumbar motor, replace lumbar motor. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .
  10. Connect hose to lumbar motor. Disconnect hose from lumbar control switch. Activate lumbar control switch to inflate position. If air is felt at open hose, go to next step. If no air is felt at open hose, replace hose.
  11. Connect hose to lumbar control switch. Connect in-line pressure gauge to hose at backrest adjuster. Hold lumbar control switch to inflate position until pressure is 5 psi (0.35 kg/cm2 ). Wait 3 hours. Observe pressure. If pressure does not hold, go to next step. If pressure holds, system is okay at this time.
  12. Disconnect hose from backrest adjuster. Using hand pump, inflate backrest adjuster to 5 psi (0.35 kg/cm2 ). Wait 3 hours. Observe pressure. If pressure does not hold, replace backrest adjuster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . If pressure holds, replace lumbar control switch.
