Power Windows: Description
Power windows are operated by reversible motors mounted on each window regulator. Each passenger's window has an individual switch for separate control. A master window adjust switch is located on driver's door controls both front and rear (if equipped) power windows. A lock-out switch is incorporated in master window adjust switch on Explorer Sport Trac models. When actuated, lock-out switch prevents window operation from individual switches.
Explorer Sport Trac models offer an optional power rear window. Ignition switch must be in RUN or ACC positions to operate power rear window. Power rear window has 3 position selections; fully open, vent and fully closed. Power rear window adjust switch is located on center of instrument panel finish panel. Turn power rear window adjust switch clockwise or counterclockwise to open or close power window. Push on center of power rear window switch once to move window to vent position. Power rear window will open approximately 2.25" for cab ventilation. If window is already in vent position, no movement will occur if power rear window switch is pressed. Power rear window also offers a bounce back feature. When power rear window is moving up and an obstacle interferes with movement, power rear window will reverse direction and move toward fully open position.
All models are equipped with a one-touch down feature, allowing driver to lower left front window fully by momentarily actuating driver's window down switch at master window adjust switch. Holding switch down longer, allows driver to stop window as soon as switch is released. One-touch down feature is controlled by Generic Electronic Module (GEM). GEM offers diagnostics to locate and repair concerns affecting controlled subsystem. One-touch down feature can only be actuated at master window adjust switch.
